You may have seen a few things around town about Cycle September that is being organised by Love to Ride? You may be wondering why you should take part? More info is below…. But basically one of the biggest problems when lobbying for better infrastructure and facilities for cyclists is a lack of data that can be used. By taking part, not only do you get a chance to take part in a fun event, you can also generate useful data that makes things better for cyclists in Sheffield. register your workplace and you will also have the bonus of being able to show your employers the number of cyclists, which is useful in sorting better facilities for those that ride, such as storage and shower. So what are you waiting for?….. Continue reading
There are always a number of ideas and projects on the go at Ride Sheffield, big and small, long term and short term, but one that has been slowly building over the past eighteen months has been RADtax. This is an idea that is crucial to the long term prospects of successful, sustainable (and growing) mountain biking in Sheffield.
While other ideas may be a bit more exciting or glamorous or have the outcome of a new trail, for example, this has the potential to make a very big positive impact on the riding in the area. However, it is still currently a work in progress and to make sure that it is done in a way that benefits local riders and means that more people want to be part of it, we want your thoughts and feedback on it. Lady Cannings had been bedding in nicely over the past few months, but everywhere needs a little TLC to keep it running sweetly.
We will be heading up to Lady Cannings next Tuesday evening (25th July) to do a little basic maintenance work. As the trail is in pretty good shape, we will be mainly clearing out drains, sweeping/raking any loose material and trimming back a few unruly bits of vegetation too.
We will be meeting in the car park (off Sheephill Road) at 6.30pm.
We will provide tools, but if you have brooms, rakes or secateurs please bring them with you (and dress appropriately for the work).
Peaty’s Steel City DH is a perfectly formed rough diamond is Sheffield’s sporting crown and has been running every spring since 2011. Organised by Peaty (and friends), it takes all the best bits of MTB races that Steve has experienced around the world and puts them into a small woods in Grenoside.
It has become know as ‘the biggest little race in the world’ and for good reason; It is massively popular with racers, selling out in a matter of minute. It allows rippers (aged 11-12) to race the same course as world champions such as Steve Peat and Tracy Moseley, it also boasts one of the biggest fields of female competitors nationally too.
Beyond the racers, there is one aspect that has cemented the races reputation as a must do event nationally and that is the atmosphere. With crowds of over 3000 attending the event, the buzz is second to none.
So if you have not been up to the event before here is all you need to know about planning a trip to the race…. Continue reading
This month we will be heading up to Greno for our trail days. While the trails are pretty hardwearing and a little rougher than some, they still benefit from a little tic here and there. We will be starting in the Bombhole to make sure it is all looking good for Peaty’s Steel City DH and them working on the Steel City Track before doing a few jobs on the other trails (time permitting) Continue reading
The trails in Lady Cannings exist because of a lot of hardwork by numerous people, Sheffield City Council’s massive support and your contributions which made it possible. However, nothing would have happened without Go Outdoors having the confidence and vision to get behind the project by funding the last part of the Blue Steel Trail and all of Cooking on Gas. To celebrate that success, they will be holding a grand opening on the trail this weekend. Ride Sheffield will be there to chat about this and other projects, but this is Go Outdoors’ big celebration of all things mountain biking as you can read below….. Continue reading
We love it, you love it and an awful lot of people ride it! Lady Cannings is certainly seeing a lot of action at the moment, so we thought it best to get up there and give it a little loving to keep it all running sweet…
We will be up there this Saturday, the 22nd of April, from 10am onwards. We will be meeting in the car park on Sheephill Rd and then onwards on the trail.
Yes, the question that has been on a lot of peoples lips since last November can now be answered!
Lady Cannings, Blue Steel trail has finally reopened!
While it has taken a little while longer than even we expected to have the trail reopened, we have had to battle with much greater damage to the trail by the foresters than we had expected, coupled with a very wet January and February, not to mention a couple of substantial storms that have left downed trees and hung up branches everywhere. So, all things considered, to us it feels like a result to have it opening now. Continue reading
We are back to our trail days after a break for Christmas we are back at it again, not only that but we will be returning to a new spot.
We have had quite a few requests to work on the Bridleway that runs from Fox Hagg to Rivelin Reservoir, namely the perma-bog at the end of the flat section before the descent down to the reservoir. It a SWT nature reserve so getting permission has taken longer than normal, but we are all good to go now. Continue reading
