This coming Monday the 30th of November we will be gathering together in the back room of the Lescar for our annual social. This time it will be that little bit more special as we are celibrating five years of Ride Sheffield and thanks to the Adventure Cafe in Hope we will even have a cake to celebrate with!
There are a couple of changes to previous years, firstly it will include the formalities of our AGM that used to happen in the summer (don’t worry we are hoping that this bit should only take about five minutes).
Perhaps more excitingly; as we are celebrating five years of Ride Sheffield. It seems like a good chance to reflect on what we have achieved in the past five years. But we dont want to indulge ourselves too much; More importantly is that we want you to shape what we will do over the next five years. Continue reading
The progress that has been made up at Bolehills this winter has been nothing short of phenomenal. The entire track has been cut back to its original width as well as other work being done to improve the track no end. They have even had chance to work on the pump track too!
This has been down to the revived Sheffield Dirt Society and also to the fantastic volunteer effort that has been going on every couple of weeks. Continue reading
More digging up at Bolehills this Saturday 17th of January. Over to Sheffield Dirt Society for the details…..
MAN THE SPADES!
We’re back for 2015.
Not far to go now, we really cracked on at the last dig day and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Plan for the day as usual is to scrape off the grass from the edges of the track to get it back to full width.
The focus of the day is on the final straight and to get her running prime.
Farmer Jack’s extra special parking!
It’s just possible that the Big Dog down here has a direct line to the BIg Man upstairs because, once again, the Steel City Downhill was blessed with superb weather. Continue reading
Sheffield is soon to be taking a step towards running Sky Rides in the city. Part of these mass participation rides is that they require a bit of help to run them. Next Tuesday 19th of November we will be taking up our usual position in the back room of the Lescar from 7.00pm onwards for our winter social. Its going to include the usual stuff such as the bike jumble and the quiz, but we are going to have a bit of a different take on the AGM style bit of the meeting. Continue reading
In the past we have been a bit short notice on our digging days, so from now on we will try to get dates in on a quarterly basis.
We also want to be clear on what we do too. So if you seen that we are doing a Dig Day, that means we are working on bike specific trails. That will often mean more technical work and are a good way to learn your craft in trail work. These will usually be on the second saturday of the month. If we are doing a Trail Day that means we will be working on rights of way. This work may be done solely by ourselves or in partnership with the Wildlife Trust, Eastern Moors Partnership, SCC etc. Continue reading
While we have always had a big meeting in the run up to Christmas, that serves as a bit of a social and quiz; as well as us letting you know what has been going on and giving you a chance to chat to people from the SCC ROW team, Eastern Moors, Wildlife Trust etc. We have also held an AGM for the past two years ever since we became a constitutionalised organisation. While this has always been a more low key event, we thought that as there is a lot more going on with Ride Sheffield we would do a little more this year. Continue reading

Start line nerves….
Another Steel City downhill and, crikey, The Force was strong in this one. The Dark Lord Himself, Darth Peaty had issued an ultimatum to the weather gods and, intimidated, they’d capitulated with a month of dry weather prior to the race. Day after day, racers practiced, interrupted occasionally by the Ride Sheffield trail fairies a’fettling and a’shaping, beautifying the berms and tidying the transitions. Come the day, the pessimists of the Met Office were proved wrong yet again as the sun shone and the track stayed snuff dry all day.
