Biking at Cliffhanger – Details

News Update

As we mention last week there will be a full program of biking events at this years Cliffhanger event in Graves Park.including cycle speedway, Rollapaluza, Trials Display, Timber Trail, and the Shopper World Cup. You  should be able to get involved and have a go with most of these and they will be running all day on both days. But here are some details of a couple of the events you would like to get involved with on the Saturday….

XCE

Cross Country Eliminator is the UCI’s newest incarnation of the sport and involves racing in fours around a short course for one lap, with the fastest two riders going through to the next round.

We have a fun course planned for you, starting with a quick grassy climb before diving into the singletrack, which should be a little slippery with a few rocks, roots and logs to deal with. To keep it open there will be a couple of extra line choices to alow passing on the descent too. You’ll just need a bit of nerve to pull them off!. Once you are out of the would you will have a quick swithcbacking climb before sprinting to the finish.

You will be able to ride the course the whole weekend (it will just be closed for the racing). To race you need to have registered by 1200, with racing starting at 1230. If there are high numbers we run a qualifying lap before getting down to the heats. Podium places will be rewarded!

Dual

This Is Sheffield will be at the event running their (in)famous dual races, giving everyone a chance to put in a time down the course, with the fastest racers heading into the finals later in the afternoon. Given the standard of the racing that is usually at the events it should be a pretty awesome spectacle. As with all TiS events there are a few rules and regulations you will need to stick by. So in their words…

“As park of Sheffield’s Cliffhanger outdoor festival we will be setting up the dual poles on a grassy hill in Graves park on Saturday 7th July. The course will be out all day for anyone to come and have a play. If you wish, you have one chance to lay down a qualification time. Should you be among the fastest of the day, you will get the chance to compete in the finals. A knock out competition pitting the best of the best against each other to decide the winner. This will be run in true TiS style with each entrant throwing down a prize as an entry fee and the winner getting first pick. Timing will be with stopwatches and fast fingers. As always, spiked tyres are banned to keep things even.

The race will start at 3:30 sharp so all practice and quali’s will be done by 3pm, then and it’ll be straight in to racing. We’ve raced on grass several times before and believe me it gets very interesting and very sideways especially with a bit of rain”
