No Balls Biking
No Balls Biking is a new women’s only MTB group that has been set up in Sheffield, by riders who have been inspired by women’s only events such as Stilettos on Wheel and want to create a similar vibe for just general riding.
No Balls Biking is a new group for women interested in biking. The idea with this group is to involve all types of rider from beginner to gnarly pinner in all types of cycling whether it is long distance XC or family leisure rides but in an all women environment (safety in numbers) with no pressure to keep up, go fast or attempt crazy speeds or tech. Hopefully there will be regular rides, social meets and more involvement within the Sheffield riding community when it comes to trail maintenance, road safety and dig days. Beware… There may be women with shovels!!
Although there are other groups similar, we hope to get everyone together as one community so that it is easier to try new disciplines, find new routes and meet new friends. At the moment in its infancy it is mainly people in the Sheffield area, however hopefully in the future it will spread to be a UK wide community. This weekend at Diva Descent I shall be talking to GirlMTNBiker and other women interested in spreading the word to see how we can get the word out.
A few ideas to develop in the future if participation increases are:
- To have a network of women to call on for advice or ride with if you fancy a ride somewhere new in the UK
- Organise skills courses both riding and home mechanical courses
- Eventually organise small competitions from XC and Road to Fun races for families
- Weekends and trips away
- Raise the profile of biking for women and make it easier and less scary to get involved
- Social gatherings
- Charity and fun rides
We are having a social meet on the 9th of September, 2pm at Endcliffe Park Cafe for anyone who wants to come and meet other women to go out riding with and have a chat before committing to a ride, ideas about what people would like to get out of cycling and ideas about what people would like to see from the group. Partners and kids welcome to come along to bring some ideas and give their opinions. Hope to see people there!!
Any questions or ideas please do not hesitate to contact me Email me at email@example.com or come for a coffee and a chat on Sunday the 9th September 2pm at Endcliffe Park Cafe.
